I would like to say I was rather disappointed in the state the field hospital at Rowton moor has got, is it not the duty of the SK and local enthusiasts, not to mention Chester City Council tourism, to make sure it is up kept, this is a shameful way for one of our period's major buildings to end up?.
No doubt the hospital played a vital role in the battle itself, I am quite interested in this aspect of the ECW's and live close by the Preston battlefield site which I have read quite a bit about and would be keen to know what medical facilities were available in 1648, buildings turned over as temporary hospitals perhaps. No doubt some of you will have similar feelings about tidying it up and making it an important part of Chester's history and that of the period in general, perhaps even doing a bit of a dig in the process, there may well be finds of importance under there we can exploit in our search to find the significance of Rowton moor through its medical history.
By the way, while on our trip I noticed the bridge at Holt doesn't appear to have a blue plaque, maybe I missed it, so there is another job for the SK Chester people.
